<p>A prominent independent writer was accused on ABC&#8217;s &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sunny-hostin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The View</a>&#8221; this week of being a &#8220;pawn&#8221; for the political Right because of his views on race in America.</p>
<p>Coleman Hughes, an author and podcast host, joined the Left-wing show on Wednesday to discuss his book &#8220;The End of Race Politics: Arguments for a Colorblind America.&#8221;</p>
<p>Co-host Sunny Hostin said that Hughes&#8217; belief that everyone should &#8220;treat people without regard to race&#8221; was &#8220;fundamentally flawed.&#8221;</p>
<p>Hostin tried to use quotes from Martin Luther King Jr. to argue against having a &#8220;color-blind&#8221; society where everyone is treated equally regardless of race.</p>
<p>&#8220;So your argument for color-blindness, I think, is something that the Right has co-opted and so many in the black community, if I’m being honest with you, because I want to be, believe that you are being used as a pawn by the Right and that you’re a charlatan of sorts,&#8221; Hostin said.</p>
<p>Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who is a contributor at CNN, defended Hughes against the allegations, noting: “He’s not a Republican!”</p>
<p>Hostin claimed that Hughes has declared that he is a &#8220;conservative,&#8221; which he denied having said.</p>
<p>&#8220;I don’t think I’ve been co-opted by anyone. I’ve only voted twice — both for Democrats. I’m an independent,&#8221; Hughes said. &#8220;I would vote for a Republican — probably a non-Trump Republican if they were compelling. I don’t think there’s any evidence I’ve been co-opted by anyone and I think that’s an ad-hominem tactic people use to not address, really, the important conversations we’re having here. I think it’s better and it would be better for everyone if we stuck to the topics rather than make it about me without any evidence that I’ve been co-opted.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;No one is paying me to say what I&#8217;m saying,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The reason I wrote this book is because, in the past 10 years, it has become very popular to, in the name of anti-racism, teach a kind of philosophy to our children, in general, that says your race is everything. And I think that is the wrong way to fight racism, and that&#8217;s why I wrote this book at this time.&#8221;</p>
